Gelato Gondola, Chatswood - Sydney

Nobody eats as much ice cream as I do in winter.

I'm serious. I may be shivering and putting on four layers of clothing, but a mention of ice cream or gelato still gets me excited. Anyone feels the same?

Anyway, let's get back to this. After a warming ramen fix, we went to Gelato Gondola as a part of our promise to Irene. The weather was warming up and the sky was clearing, as if the nature was telling us to dig into some scoops of icy treats.

Only a few blocks away from the station, the place may not have the popularity of Messina's yet, but I  definitely will be telling people about this lovely spot.

The place is run by Davide and Luca, who knows really well what to put into the churn to produce the overwhelming options of flavours. Real ingredients and fruit juices are used, as well as imported high-quality items to ensure the gelato's excellence.

We were honored to be served by Davide himself, who were very generous in providing us samples. The sorbets were beautifully bright and looked very refreshing. Apparently they have permanent flavours while the specials change everyday. Anna really wanted the taro one but they didn't have it that day.

After some pondering, we finally settled with two scoops each.

Shall I elaborate?

Banana Nutella - the Nutella flavour was overwhelmed by the sweet banana, but overall it was creamy, smooth, and definitely a must-try.

"Gondola" (blood orange, green apple, Italian aperitif) - the definition of refreshing. Not too sweet, slightly tangy, and if it was that good in chilly winds, I can only imagine how perfect it would be in warmer weather.

Anna has some kind of beef with chocolate, so she opted for the nutty choices.

Black sesame - creamy and nutty with strong black sesame flavour. She adored it, not so much for me.

Pistachio - flawless. Lovely and distinct taste of the green nuts.

Before leaving, I managed to try melone, which tasted exactly like rock melon, only icier. I will be back even just to get a scoop of that.

Moral of the story is that this place is worth the trek to the north part of Sydney, even if you live in the other end like me.

  11. This place is great! I love the pistachio and hazelnut flavours, they're really authentic and the flavour is so concentrated and beautiful! The fact that they import their ingredients from Italy really makes a difference. Must come back to try the myriad of other flavours.
