Macarons from Mero Mero and Coco Noir - Sydney

I don't like sharing these babies..

..because I love them too much. I've known macarons since I read posts about them from Grab Your Fork and Chocolatesuze. And those colourful circles with fillings look delicious. It's been said that the best macarons are those from Adriano Zumbo. It's been a dream of mine to go to Balmain and try Zumbo's macarons, but I dunno how to get there without a car. But I can't hold my curiosity any longer, and finally bought my first two macarons from Mero Mero, at Westfield City food court (level 5).

They have a display of blue coloured macarons but they said they are not for sale. Shame. I chose chocolate and strawberry, playing safe.

And how lovely they are! I absolutely love both of them. The strawberry one is lighter then the chocolate, but they both delicious nevertheless. The chocolate has a thick filling, which I love so much. The cream filling in the strawberry macaron is also pretty, light and sweet. I love the shells too, crunchy outside, but if you bite it, they are chewy inside. Yum yum! My first impression of macarons is that they are so beautiful. I reckon I can eat a whole box of them.

After craving for more macarons for a few days, I decided to go to Westfield again to buy some. This time I went to Coco Noir (Westfield City level 2), where there are more options of macarons.

I bought a box of 6 macarons. They are: chocolate, hazelnut, strawberry rose, raspberry, salted caramel, and passionfruit.

Top L-R: salted caramel, passionfuit. Middle L-R: hazelnut, strawberry rose. Bottom L-R: raspberry, chocolate ($2.5 each, $12.5 box of 6)

My favourite is the strawberry rose. The filling is soo nice, a little bit sour but sweet at the same time, and it smells really nice. My second close favourite is the hazelnut. I love Nutella as a macaroon mmm. The third fav is the chocolate, then followed by the raspberry which has the filling of (I am quite sure) raspberry jam that I have in my fridge! I love it though, it's sour, refreshing. I don't really like the salted caramel, and my least fav is the passionfruit. My first bite of the passionfruit macaroon tasted like fried chicken (??), so weird. Or maybe it's just me. I don't like it anyway, the passionfruit taste is too vague for me.

Overall, I think Mero Mero's macaroons are much better. I wonder if Zumbo's are even better.. mmm macarons..
